SGP Joins Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council
By becoming a member of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC), SGP has
joined forces with leaders from government, industry, academia,
standards organizations and NGOs to develop a groundbreaking guidance
program for leadership in sustainable purchasing. Public and private
sector organizations will use the program to guide trillions of dollars
in collective purchasing towards goods and services that simultaneously
meet the needs of their organization, society and the planet.
SGP joins an esteemed group of organizations representing purchasers, suppliers and the public interest, including Best Buy, Fedex, Green Seal, Goodyear, JC Penny, Office Depot, UPS and World Wildlife Fund.
As a member of the SPLC,
SGP will play an instrumental role in solving the biggest obstacle to
sustainable institutional purchasing: a lack of standardization in how
sustainable purchasing is defined, guided, measured and rewarded. The
Council's Guidance Program for Leadership in Sustainable Purchasing v1.0,
now under development, will enable efficient sharing of best practices,
solutions, training, benchmarking, recognition and policy efforts among
organizations, sectors and regions.

such a remarkable success. With more than 75 attendees, dynamic

SGP at ISS Long Beach
|
Twenty-six apparel screen-printing companies attended a luncheon at the Imprinted Sportswear Show (ISS) in
Long Beach, CA to learn more about how to become certified printers
under the leadership of the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership. Marci Kinter, SGP board member and vice president of SGIA and Marshall Atkinson,
SGP board member and COO of Visual Impressions, Inc., hosted the
luncheon, sponsored by SGIA. Attendees were presented information on how
sustainability can lower their operating costs, how building a
sustainability program can instill industry best-practices, and how
leveraging sustainability certification can be good for new business
opportunities. The lunch was very well attended, with a robust question
and answer session with Marci and Marshall.

New Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas Protocol
New
guidance has been developed by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol for Scope 2
greenhouse gas emissions. Four years in the making, this guidance will
provide much-needed clarity on how corporations measure emissions from
electricity and energy purchases, including renewable energy. The new
Scope 2 Guidance amendment fixes that problem by giving corporations a
common framework to account for their energy emissions whether from
electricity contracts or instruments like renewable energy credits. CDP,
The Climate Registry and other reporting programs will soon require
thousands of companies to report this additional information about their
scope 2 emissions.
A webcast will be held on Jan 30 on the release of the new guidance.
